Buckeye State Credit Union is proud to offer grant funding to support small business making an impact in our community, especially those who have historically faced barriers to access.

Through our CDFI Equitable Recovery Program, we are awarding $475,000 in total grant funding to help businesses strengthen operations, create jobs, and serve our community.

This is grant funding! No repayment required (as long as program requirements are met)

Who Should Apply

This program is designed for small businesses that:

  • Have been operating for at least 2 years
  • Are in good standing with all laws and regulations
  • Are Minority- owned or Minority-controlled (as defined by federal guideline)
  • Serve or operate in low-to moderate income or underserved communities
  • Have a clear plan to uses funds for business growth and Stability
  • Local priority given to businesses in Summit County, with an emphasis in Akron

Who is eligible to apply?
Eligible applicants must be small businesses that have been operating for at least two years, meet program eligibility requirements, and demonstrate that grant funds will benefit eligible communities and populations. Please review the full Program Guidelines for complete eligibility details.
Do I need to be a Buckeye State Credit Union member to apply?

No. Membership is not required to apply for this grant program.

 

How much funding is available?

Buckeye State Credit Union Plan to award three grants totaling $475,000:

  • One grant of $200,000
  • One grant of $150,000
  • One grant of $125,000
What can grant funds be used for?

Grant funds can be used for essential business needs like: payroll, rent or utilities, inventory or supplies, working capital, or day-to-day operating expenses. Funds cannot be used for things like political activities or lobbying, personal expenses or improper benefits, illegal activities

 

How do I apply?
Download and complete the application, gather any required supporting documentation, and email your completed application package to grantsupport@buckeyecu.org 
All applications and supporting documentation must be submitted by September 30, 2026.
How will applications be evaluated?
Applications will be reviewed based on eligibility, completeness, alignment with program goals, and the potential economic or community impact of the proposed use of funds.
Applications will be reviewed following the close of the application period. Notification timelines may vary depending on the number of applications received and any additional information required during review.
Does meeting the eligibility requirements guarantee funding?

No. This is a competitive grant program with limited funding. Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee that an application will be selected for funding.

My business is outside of Akron. Can I still apply?

Yes. Businesses outside Akron may apply if they meet the program’s eligibility requirements. Priority consideration may be given to businesses located in or serving Summit County, particularly Akron, but eligible businesses from other qualifying areas are encouraged to apply.
